Geographically, the instititutions involved in the project mirror the diversity within the EU-15 and also incorporates the situation in the wider Union by including parties from beyond the borders of the EU-15. The diversity concerns both the status of restructuring as of adopting microfinance tools. In all regions, strengthening the MSME sector is a priority issue for securing and creating employment.

Looking at the regions actively involved, in Languedoc-Roussillon (France), traditionally small enterprises play an important role and different institutions are already engaged in promoting microfinance instruments, while Brandenburg (Germany) and Magnesia (Greece) are both struck by deindustrialisation due to systemic change and decreasing industrial activities. The Polish partner involved shows how in Eastern Europe, microfinance instruments have contributed to improving the employment situation.
